This bright green Pokémon is Metapod – its name implies the chrysalis state of its hard shell that protects its soft body. As it matures and grows stronger, it will eventually evolve into the majestic Butterfree!
To bring out the vibrant hues and shades of Metapod’s green shell, start by base coating the entire body in an olive-like shade. Use a bright, vibrant apple green to give a sense of vibrancy, especially around the edges and ridged details. For a pop of contrast, add dark green shading around the edges of the raised ridges and highlights with a light yellow. To bring out the texture and dimension, use a greyed-out green to blend out the highlights and shadows, optionally blending in the subtle tones of tan and rust to mimic the change in Metapod’s hue when it’s close to evolution. To finish, give your Metapod a glow by adding in a soft, pastel blue for an enchanting effect.
